Sharing Time

ahhh lucky for me no one really reads my blog.... SO I've decided to brave putting up one of my poems... perhaps I'll decide to put up more later, we'll see... This is a poem from my poetry class a year ago.

The Wreck

Everything is glazed over like and eye's vision after a long cry
a twin sized bed centered in an all white room
lit only by the dim yellow light of fluorescents above
needles prod into my arm, forcing cool liquids through my veins
the beep-beep of a heart monitor squeezes my head

This is not my room,
no time for questions.
my eyelids, oversized curtains
shutting out the room

with closed eyes I see what brought me here
only everything is backwards

strapped down to a board
someone pumps air into my lungs
why can't I breathe on my own?

flashing lights, red and white
but they are upside down
and my head is scraping the roof of my car

I see my mother
reaching her hands out to me just the way she did
the last time I saw her
spinning me around blending
images into colors draining down a sink
being swallowed, turning into white

lights blinking, a horn blaring
wake up, it says, wake up!
and when i do there is nothing
but the sound of metal crunching
and bones snapping
